How much better would you life be if you could take the actions that you know would make you successful? Would things be different if you had a way to overcome procrastination? For most, the quality of their life increases substantially when they are able to do what they know how to do. It is interesting to note, that the majority of individuals have an idea of what it takes to be a success in any area. However, the failure to act is what stops these people from attaining the level that they desire.

Success in any area of life requires action. Power has been described as “the ability to act”. When one is unable to act in specific situations, powerless has set in. Procrastination promotes this result. This single habit destroys more careers, marriages, and self-esteem than any other single trait. In its’ infancy, it is a minor irritation. However, when it is allowed to grow deep into our psyche, procrastination has the capability of totally paralyzing one from acting. It subtly becomes a bigger motivator (or demotivator) in our decision making. The words “later” and “tomorrow” are the default mindset.

Procrastination is driven by two factors: laziness and fear. Often, when we have something that is rather quick and not difficult to do, we still put it off. These situations are driven by laziness, We simply do not feel like doing that activity at the moment. A “Just Do It” attitude helps in overcoming this. At the same time, there are things that we put off doing because we fear the results that we will receive. Our projections are negative which cause us to avoid acting. We believe that perhaps if we wait, things will pass by. Of course, this only compounds the issue. Time acts to magnify the circumstances. In these instances, we will act when the fear of the consequence of not doing it is greater than the fear associated with doing it.

A procrastination list is a valuable tool in challenging the habit of procrastination. Regardless of the motivator, it enable us to take action in an orderly manner. A great deal of a procrastinator’s problem is in their thinking. By using this list. much of the thought process is removed. We set down all that we are putting off on paper as they come to mind. The order is set without any pre-qualification. Everything is listed regardless of the size of the task. If it is being put off, it is written down.

Once the list is completed, the tasks are handled one-by-one in the sequence listed. There is no jumping around. If it is next on the list, that is what is focused upon. The process of thinking is removed entirely from the equation. Also, it is vitally important to concentrate on one activity until it is fully completed before moving onto something else. Procrastinator’s tend to bail out when things get a little difficult. Resist this temptation while finishing the task at hand.

The other technique that is really effective against procrastination is the procrastination partner. This is someone who you decide you will be accountable to for helping with your list. We seem to be able to take action when we have someone else that we are answering to. This is an ideal way to set up those parameters for yourself.

With this resource, we find someone who we can put trust in to have the gumption to honestly push us. If you find someone who will let you be lax, it will not work. Upon sitting with this person, we show them our procrastination list. A schedule is set down as to what actions we will take and when. Regular interaction is required to monitor the progress and report the results. Sometimes people will each establish a list and help each other work on it. The more you can involve the other person in motivating you, the better. It is similar to having a workout partner. The accountability is often enough to get us to act.

Our thinking is what creates the thoughts to put something off. When we remove that process or we are working with someone else who does not carry that same idea, the fear that we conjured up loses its power. This is the starting point to regaining our personal power. Our success increases immediately when we are able to take the proper action. The ability to act is a quality that the highest achievers have.

One definition of “procrastination” is: “putting off or delaying an action to a later time.” Have you ever found yourself doing that? I think it’s safe to say that most of us learning to implement specific internet marketing strategies, using an affiliate marketing system, or working any number of home based business opportunities have felt like doing anything but work at one time or another.

Let’s say you have just joined the best home based internet business you could find. You already understand all the advantages of working from home, and truly do want to achieve entrepreneurial and home based business success.

You’re ready to go to work, but for some reason, you find yourself stalling. You are procrastinating. You want to “Seize the Day” with your home based business – but… you figure you can “Seize the day tomorrow.”

It could be that you are feeling a little overwhelmed by everything that needs doing when learning new internet marketing strategies or new technologies. That’s certainly understandable.

Unfortunately, every time you procrastinate in your home business you are increasing the odds that you will fall behind, waste time and money, or worst of all – quit. This is where overcoming procrastination in your home business – no matter what business or system you are using – will be essential to your success.

Plain and simple: If you are to achieve success, it is time to learn how to conquer the tendency to procrastinate.

Here is an idea that I hope will help you improve your odds of entrepreneurial and home based business success. This is not a difficult technique, and you may find that it’s fun!

The next time you feel stuck, or feel like “seizing the day tomorrow” grab a file folder and a few sheets of paper. This is your “Procrastination Dissolver” file.

On one of the blank sheets of paper, write down as many ideas as you can that are home business-related activities.

As you brainstorm about the activities for this exercise, you don’t necessarily need to list the most important, high priority activities related to your business. For example, a high priority item in your particular home or internet based business may be “call prospect A, B and C.” But, during a time where you may be procrastinating, that particular activity may be the very one you are avoiding.

So, the activities that come to mind that may be suitable for this list might look a little bit like this:

1) Visit and comment on blogs related to my home based business opportunity.
2) Consider new ideas for upcoming articles or blog entries.
3) Read and comment on an article related to a similar internet or affiliate marketing system.
4) Change a picture on my blog.
5) Investigate new places to advertise.
6) Search online for new internet marketing strategies to promote my home based business opportunity.
7) Review competitors’ pay-per-click campaigns.
8) Find and list new keywords for my next ad campaign.
9) Read or listen to a motivational book or audio.
10) Find and add new related affiliate marketing system blogs to “Favorites.”

Are you getting the idea?

Ok – at this point in the exercise, grab another blank piece of paper, and label it “Procrastination Conquered!”!” This sheet should have 4 columns. Label the four columns, from left to right, as follows: “Date,” “Time Spent,” “Description of Activity,” and “Noticable Results.”.”

Store these sheets, along with some blank paper for future work in your Procrastination Dissolver folder. The next time you feel stuck or are procrastinating, take out this file, and choose one of the activities you have listed. Then, work on that activity.

Finally, when you have had enough of that activity, record what you did, when you did it, how much time you spent on it, and any results you may have noticed upon completion.

The result of any given activity may be as simple as, “Got a great idea for a new internet marketing strategy – Have written it down; saved to marketing folder.”

After you complete this exercise, you may find that you are now focused on work, and can move on to another, high priority business activity.

Overcoming procrastination may not always be easy, but it really is critical to your home business or internet marketing success.

“This is a life-changing book”… “This book changed everything for me”….

How many times have you flicked through the internet or looked on the front cover of a so-called ‘Best Seller’ and read these types of testimonials from satisfied customers? Whether you are surfing the net or looking in your local book store it is not difficult to find a book or article focussed on self-improvement; either geared towards developing a specific area of your life or all-round spiritual or professional growth.

From my experiences I would say that there is definitely some usefulness in investing in a self-improvement book, and I have now read a few books which have really helped me to understand and begin to overcome procrastination. However, I would air on the side of caution when it comes to handing over your hard earned cash as I do not believe that a few books are not going to revolutionise your entire life.

Please don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that those satisfied customers who write testimonials like the ones above are lying to you: they probably did find true enlightenment in what they read. However, I genuinely believe that these people were in the right frame of mind to receive the information which they read, and this is the key to overcoming procrastination. Initially, when I first started making a conscious effort to stop procrastinating, I started looking online for advice. Then I printed off every article I could find. Then I read a book. The quest for information, the desire to over-plan and that feeling that you are not yet ready to start something is a trademark character trait of the typical procrastinator.

With this in mind before you decide to invest in that brilliant self-improvement book which has received rave reviews, be completely honest and ask yourself whether it is the critical tool that you need to ignite the new, non-procrastinating you… if this is not the case then you might find that the approach you are taking to overcoming procrastination is to procrastinate even further! However, if you are seeking this book as the means to start taking serious action then you will find that self-help books can really help you to learn a lot about yourself – what makes you tick and act the way you do – and provide practical advice and coaching for you to make genuine progress to overcoming procrastination, once and for all.

If you are looking for books that could really assist you in improving various aspects of your life – whether it is procrastination, time management or career development, then this link could provide you with a good starting point for finding a wealth of information geared towards self-help, improvement and motivation. Alternatively you can visit my website, which documents my struggles as a (recovering!) serial procrastinator, and reviews materials that I have read on the subject of managing and overcoming procrastination.

The value of time

Each person begins the day with the same valuable resource-you have 24hours until tomorrow at this time. It does not matter who you are and what you do, time is one resource given to each person in an equal share. Your time is your most valuable asset, much more valuable than money. Time is one resource that can not br replenished;once this day ends that time is gone forever

Whereas, in fact, the top motivator consistently with knowledge workers was progress (which managers ranked dead last).

How many times have you come across a so-called ‘Best Selling’ book on self-improvement with rave reviews from satisfied customers on it’s “life changing” content? If you have ever dealt with procrastination before you know how it can be a fast killer when it comes to you taking action and reaching your goals. A lot of people around the world deal with procrastination each and every single day and most of these people let it control their lives. If you have been controlled by procrastination before, you know that it is virtually impossible to reach your goals and dreams under this condition.

Most of the world’s most successful people have learned how to overcome procrastination and this is a large part of what allows them to reach their goals in life. In this article I am going to discuss the most common mistakes people make when it comes to overcoming procrastination and pushing through this sabotaging feeling.

The first mistake people make is that they allow the thought of procrastination enters their minds. You always get an initial feeling when you start rationalizing and the easiest way you can stop yourself from procrastinating is to stop this initial feeling as soon as you feel it. You have to understand that whenever you procrastinate on doing something, it is because you have allowed yourself to do this and therefore the easiest way is to just stop procrastination as soon as you feel it appearing.

The next mistake people make is that they lower their guards after having overcome the first wave of procrastination. You have to understand that this feel keeps coming back again and again and will hit you when you expect it the least. A lot of times people start rationalizing even though they have just overcome the first wave and then they end up giving in to temptation and all of their work will be wasted.

A great example of this is someone who is on a diet and wants to eat a cake. After having fought with the thought for a couple of minutes and deciding that they won’t eat the cake no matter what, they end up eating it anyways. Therefore you should always have your guards up and be ready to deal with procrastination as soon as you feel it coming.

Avoid these two common mistakes and you will quickly see that your ability to deal with procrastination and take action in spite of it will quickly improve. The more you deal with it, the better you will get.

Issues with junk food

Well, there are several issues with junk food. First of all the problem quickly becomes the calories since it is very rare that people just go for a burger, they usually also go for a coke and fries. Going for a burger menu instead of just the burger suddenly doubles or even triples the amount of calories you are consuming.

You can even sandblast your jeans in order to create a truly hardcore rock look. If you look really normal it is a great idea to add jewelry to your style and spice things up a little. You can get earrings, piercings or just a couple of rings and necklaces.

A Life Lesson In Overcoming Procrastination & Laziness

A Life Lesson In Overcoming Procrastination & Laziness

A post about overcoming procrastination & laziness: Two Thursdays ago a bittersweet life lesson was handed down to me which made me think of where I would’ve been if I chose to do things differently. I don’t want to sound too melodramatic because it’s not but it’s a life lesson nonetheless. Nearly or about 4 years ago I started attending a form of martial arts known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I started about the same time as my friend and as far as I can recall, I think a had a few weeks ahead of him.

We started out with relatively the same skill level and knowledge of the martial art. In fact, I was a step ahead of my friend since I had the couple of weeks head start. I would overcome him more than we did me when we sparred. We attended classes 3 to 4 times a week and our passion for the art was strong. We lived, breathed, and ate bjj (brazilian jiu-jitsu). It was fun!

A few months into the martial art I became lazy and didn’t attend much of the classes. I became unmotivated for some reason or other especially when the holidays hit. I’d procrastinate and do something unproductive like sit around and watch TV or do some other time wasting activity. I’d come to class maybe once a week…two at most but that was it for me. Then the two classes a week dwindled down to whenever I felt like it. I continued to go but only every once in awhile due to my procrastination and laziness. It wasn’t on a consistent basis so I never really got back into the rythm and eventually I stopped completely.

I lost touch with my friend but we’d keep in contact every so often. He still continued to go even after all these years. He kept urging me to go in our conversations and in my heart of hearts I still had a passion for the sport. So I decided to enroll again. It’s been about a month or so now.

Fast forward to two Thursdays ago and my friend was awarded his purple belt. A purple belt in bjj is only 2 belts away from black. I thought to myself after the class was over, “What if I continued down this path?”. What if I remained persistent and hadn’t lost my passion for it?. What if I overcame procrastination and ignored the excuses? Where would I be? It is a life lesson that I’ll never forget. It’s good in a way…

So what does this have to do with your home based business? Everything! Imagine yourself 4 years (or sooner) from now if you remain persistent with your business or anything else for that matter. Where would you be a few years from now if you stopped procrastinating and continued down this road? Where would your skill set and knowledge be in your online home business 4 years from now? Now imagine yourself giving in to procrastination. Where would you be 4 years from now?

Here are just some tips (That I Can Use As Well!) to overcoming procrastination:

1.) Identify the reason for procrastination: Could it be fear that’s holding you back?  Laziness? Once you identify the reason, overcoming procrastination becomes easier.

2.) Set up a daily routine: Make a list of priorities that need to be done for that day and don’t rest until that task is complete. A sense of urgency to get the task done will help you avoid procrastination. As for me I need to build backlinks daily for this site. That’s mucho importante and top of my priorities.

3.) Remain persistent: Doing things on a daily basis becomes a habit. Despite what many hyped-up sales pages say, you won’t make “,393 in seven days using this system”. The people who do make those figures DID NOT make that off the bat. It took them time to learn the skills and they remained persistent even through the failures.

4.) Have Passion: Being passionate about your business will help you in beating procrastination to a pulp. Your passion for your home business will help you get through the days when you feel like quitting.

5.) Be progressive: Continue learning new skills whether it’s in writing good articles, learning a new traffic technique or learning some basic HTML codes. When you learn new things you become excited in the accomplishment and you’ll build your skill set.

In conclusion, I just want to say that this post was meant for me as much as it was meant for those of you who are struggling in overcoming procrastination and I hope it has encouraged you to continue learning and implementing the skills it takes to succeed. Just like my friend’s breakthrough came 2 Thursdays ago, yours will as well.

Understanding and Overcoming Procrastination

Overcoming procrastination is one of the major dilemmas facing anyone, whether in their personal or professional life. The habit of putting off work instead of attending to them right away has caused several lost opportunities or missed deadlines. In your aim towards increased productivity, this can be considered an unhealthy habit.

Who Is A Procrastinator?

To overcome the habit of a procrastinator, you should first identify the common tell-tale signs. Because this is a habit shared by several people, sometimes you won’t even be able to identify that you possess these characteristics.

A procrastinator is someone who puts off task at a later time, thinking they have the ability to complete tasks last-minute. Plus, s/he likes to believe that they have things under control until confronted by the reality that time is fast running out and there are still loads of work to be done. Even though he or she manages to complete the task on time, the quality is questionable.

Reasons For Procrastination

There are several reasons why people procrastinate. Oftentimes, it is innate to an individual or it could be lack of self discipline. However, it is important to point out the reason for this unhealthy habit so as to know how to deal with it.

1.Desire for perfection. Aspiring for perfection is not a negative thing. However, you have to make sure that it is realistic enough for your own skills. If not, then you are merely finding an excuse to postpone tasks.

2.Frustration. When tasks become too difficult, an individual’s response would be to give up easily due to frustration. Aside from complaining about the task, you often decide to put it off until such time when you are at a better mood to attend to it.

3.Lack of belief in own ability. When you start doubting your own skills and abilities, you will find it of no use working on the task assigned to you. Hence, you will lose productive time and end up accomplishing nothing.

Finding A Cure

Only when you have been able to recognize the reasons for your procrastinating habits will you be able to arrive at a resolution to your problem. There could be several reasons for this, so you have to arrive at a specific angle to effectively address this unhealthy habit.

For some people, responsibility is a burden. Therefore, when they are obliged to do something, they initially resent it and look for ways not to deal with the responsibility. However, by embracing your task as something that you actually enjoy doing, then you’d become more productive in it. In order to do that, you must create a balance between work and recreational activities. Do not punish yourself by depraving your schedule with fun. Make room for fun into your schedule. This might seem unproductive but by doing this, you will realize that you become more productive.

As soon as you start work on a task, the amount of work you need to put in could readily discourage you. Therefore, you need to mentally condition yourself to appropriate this one large task into smaller tasks that are more manageable. Once you get started on one, you will find it easy to pick up the pace and before you know it, you are finished.

Benefits of Overcoming Procrastination

1. Peace of mind
2. Having a sense of accomplishment
3. Regaining control of your life
4. Increased personal freedom

Self discipline is essential in helping overcome the habits of procrastination. When you learn to identify the unhealthy habits you possess, you can be on your way to overcoming procrastination and increasing your productivity.

Overcoming Procrastination – Tips And Tricks To Get You Going

Realizing that procrastination is the problem would be the first step to overcome it. Procrastinators have all sorts of problems, big and small, but it’s true that most problems are due to procrastination.

General traits of the common procrastinator:

- Procrastinators actually do know what to do in case of a problem; at many times they know the specific action to be carried out. But they avoid doing it with some reason or other.

- Procrastinators are in general unwilling to do anything about the problem at present; they plan to carry it over to some other point in the future life.

- Procrastinators keep all their work till “right” time presents itself in front of them. The performance of their job usually depends upon something other than themselves; they can easily find reasons for their delay. They cheat themselves to think that they always have a busy schedule. They think of doing many things but they fail to, not a fault of theirs.

- Most procrastination is caused by deluding themselves. Procrastinators don’t accept reality; they don’t like to take any responsibility in their lives. To overcome procrastinations, we should stop playing with ourselves. To overcome procrastination, we have to accept that we are responsible for every part of our life. There may be much more honesty than many are capable, this is the best way to get our life fulfilling.

We aren’t caught in our circumstances. Anything can be achieved by you once you decide to do it. You should learn to prioritize things of what should be done immediately and what can be left alone for later.

1. Is a list of your life’s goals ready?

2. Has a list of your short term goals been prepared (within 6 months)?

3. Has the lists has been put up in viewable places?

4. Has it been prioritized? Some things which look more important are actually not so in the long term view.

5. Have you learnt to say” no” when needed to avoid over burdening yourself with jobs?

6. Are you in the present? Do you focus on the current situation, rather than dwelling in the past memories?

7. Know how much time to be spent on a job, wind up when you think you have done the best possible. Loitering over the same job prevents from starting a new one.

If “no” has been an answer for any of the questions, get started today on the corrective action. Do something upon it one by one. Keep working on it till you can really answer is a “yes” to that question. You have moved upon the first step to your change by reading so far; now it is time to move on to the execution. Get started off with something which you have been putting off so long. If you are waiting to change, only you can do it and the right time is now.

Overcoming Procrastination

Overcoming Procrastination

It has been called the ‘thief of dreams’. Procrastination is that damaging tendency we have to put off doing the things we know we have to do. It is universally known and experienced and can be the difference between achieving a goal in a month or 6 months, or even worse for some people, between achieving a goal and not even getting started!

This article will aim to explore procrastination and how it can effect every aspect of our lives.

Firstly why is procrastination so damaging? You may be thinking I have introduced procrastination to be something more sinister than it really is. After all it’s generally innocent enough activity right? We don’t procrastinate by doing things that are mean or harmful or damaging to us, so what’s the big deal? We’ll get to that in a moment.

First let’s just recognize that each time we put something off we fall behind. When we don’t do what we’re meant to do we waste time. For whatever reason we procrastinate we lose valuable time that we can never get back. Time is one of the only non renewable resources we have. We have each moment once then it is lost forever. If you procrastinate once a week, think how much time you will have lost over a month, a year or a decade? Not only that but when you put off doing things that contribute toward the achievement of your goals you detract from the quality of the life you live while NOT procrastinating. Your goals take longer to achieve (if you achieve them at all) and you spend more of your life ‘waiting’ to get to where you want to be than moving actively towards there.

But you want to know the real kicker? Be ready for a shock.

Each time you procrastinate, something happens to you. Each time you procrastinate, you make it easy to procrastinate again next time. After a few times of this you have got yourself a habit. This means you procrastinate and slow down your achievement automatically! You don’t even think about it! Do this for 6 months and it has become a part of who you are. You will probably begin to describe yourself as lazy and notice that you are not making the progress you want in your life. But it get’s worse.

There’s a saying that says ‘How you do anything is how you do everything’. This means that if procrastination is a part of who you are, it will pervade other areas of your life. You might have started out just putting off tasks at work, but after months of having it become part of you, now you put off dates with your partner and trips to the gym. You put off appointments, you put off taking out the trash and you put off walking the dog. Pretty soon you can’t make progress in any area of your life because you are wrought with this horrid disease.

Ok you can calm down again. I have over exaggerated this point somewhat to outline the power that procrastination has to influence your life, but don’t get me wrong, the theories I’m sharing are true to a T. Overcoming procrastination is one of the most powerful feelings you can experience. If you’re a procrastinator, don’t wait another year before you do something about it. It’s your life.
