10 Tips To Help Improve Your Time Management Skills

Article by Itay Paz

Proper time management is how you will make the most of your work time. The right time management tips, can keep you focused and on top of your game. Time management is essential when it comes to running your business. Every moment you waste that you know you should be devoting to your business success, decreases your revenue. That being said, there is a happy medium. You shouldn’t spend every waking moment of the day and night working. It is equally important to your wellbeing and the wellbeing of your business that you take the time to relax. Since time management can improve the way you work, the following are 10 time management tips that you can put into practice: 1. Understand the truth about time management – You can only do so much in the course of 24 hours, so managing time is essentially about managing yourself and what you do with the time you have. You can’t change time, but you can change yourself. 2. Find out how you waste time – You probably waste time during your day without even realizing it. The internet, although a vital organ of your business, can also be distracting. Are you spending too much time surfing the web or reading your emails? You need to make a record of your daily activities so you can find out where you waste most of your time. If you don’t’ know where you waste your time, you’ll never be able to correct the problem. 3. Maketime management goals – These goals are designed to help you stay productive during specific time slots. For instance, for one week, make it your goal to not answer personal emails while you are working. 4. Trackyour goals – Making plans to manage your time is good, but you need to go beyond setting goals and actually track the goals you commit yourself to. By tracking your goals you can see if you are actually accomplishing what you set out to achieve. 5. Usetools – there are plenty of different software programs available that can help you schedule your time and important dates, such as Outlook. Time management programs can be quite useful if you lack organizational skills and cringe at the idea of “to do” lists. 6. Prioritize – Every day before you begin working, prioritize the tasks you need to get done. Make sure you do the urgent tasks first, and don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t able to complete every task. Maybe you are asking too much of yourself. 7. Outsource – Even if you run a small business it is not necessary to do everything yourself. Think about outsourcing some work to someone who can help free up your time such as ghost writer or a virtual assistant. 8. Create a regimen and stick to it – Even if you reject routines, you need to establish some form of a schedule you can follow most of the time. A routine helps you to stay focused which keeps you productive. Keep recycling your routine until you can get into one you are comfortable with. 9. Set time limits – If you don’t give yourself a time limit you can spend the whole day at one task. For instance, spend only one hour a day answering emails, and go back to it later if you have free time. 10. Put waiting time to good use – There are many times that you are forced to wait for something or someone. Instead of boring yourself while waiting for the doctor, dentist, etc., take something with you that will occupy your time and you need to get done. This could be anything from reading to balancing a checkbook, or jotting down business ideas. Remember, when all is said and done, you need to develop time management goals that work for you. Even though your friend or colleague may have a great plan that works for them, everyone has their own personal techniques that work to help keep them focused. Once you find the time management strategies that work for you, stick to it!

Lifelong Procrastinator Needs Help Today… Not Tomorrow

Does anyone else out there suffer from severe procrastination? I need help.

There, I said it. “I need help.”

I know it’s an AA thing where you stand in front of an audience of your peers and admit you need help, but maybe it will work here, too. Admitting that I need help with procrastination may be the first step in finding a cure.

I attended a Zig Ziglar seminar in the mid 1970′s and I was totally sold on the method of goal setting he was promoting. I bought all the materials he had for sale that day.
After that, I practically memorized the tapes – yes, they were tapes, not CDs or podcasts. I nearly wore out two tape recorders.

I also filled in the workbook with all my desired outcomes for the next year. I wrote everything down that I could think of, including weight loss, financial gain, spiritual enlightenment, and the attainment of marital bliss. I think I forgot to write down that I needed to cure procrastination.

Then, as all of us who have this severe problem do, I put it aside.

Oh, I thought about it each year at the New Year celebration. And I even lost a few pounds every couple of years. But I am a helpless mess right now. I know I need help with procrastination.

One of my very favorite Ziglar quotes is that “if you keep on doin’ what you’re doin’, you’ll keep gettin’ what you got.” I absolutely believe this with all my heart.
But, guess what? I keep puttin’ off what I know I need to do in order to get something different.

“Maybe I’ll start tomorrow,” I tell myself (and my wonderfully understanding wife), but tomorrow has not gotten here yet.

What’s a fella to do?

I used to listen to this radio station that had nothing but motivational speakers 24/7. I got a bunch of great quotes from listening, but not much action. However, I do recall a guy named Jim Rohn saying time after time what he learned from his mentor.

Mentor? Maybe I need one of those? Could a mentor help cure procrastination?

Anyone out there willing to be a mentor?

I recently found another possible solution. It’s a website that has a kind of coach (mentor?). You can see it by <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.goalsetting101.info”>Clicking Here</a>. Let me know what you think, will ya, ’cause I really need to cure procrastination… and soon… the old biological clock is ticking.

Procrastination is often regarded as the irrational behavior of the individuals. Procrastination is an act of delaying or putting off some activities to a later period. Often individuals motivations are based on emotions and mainly they are stuck in problems, because of the inability to control their emotions. Hence, these people are suggested to take some help of the procrastination. Wondering about the experiences of decreased motivation towards an assignment will perhaps not assist. Instead, people need to think, what type of procrastination help will enable to achieve more assignments.

Emotions of individual can often give up. Even while things appear to be well going, something upsets, and at that time, individual’s plans and goals go out of the window, at times, people lose their control. However, these conditions can be overwhelmed.

Some Significant Procrastination Aid:

Below mentioned three tips assist an individual to complete the task that they have left incomplete. These mentioned procrastination help tips will somewhat assist an individual to overcome procrastinating habits from their day-to-day activities.

1) Evaluating the Assignments: Evaluating the assignments may help fruitfully. Instead of leaving the assignments incomplete, try to asses the assignments such as, is it is important to finish it at this moment, if not kept aside and focus on other assignments, which requires immediate completion. Determine the assignments, which are not to be done, due to some situation or other. Because some people are often confused to acquire the right assignment at proper time. Hence, Procrastination help, assist the people overcoming from those accomplishments of incomplete assignments. For instance, if a particular assignment of an individual is to buy a bike, but that individual already possesses a car then at such time, that assignment can be hold on for sometime.

2) Keep the Assignments Orderly: Keeping the assignments in the order of precedence helps an individual to focus on the significant assignments, which are required to be achieved first. This method of procrastination help is considered to be one of the most effective methods. Some of the assignment may have higher precedence than some other, at that time, it is necessary to focus on those higher precedence assignments and keeping aside those lower precedence assignments.

3) Complete Before Beginning the New One: Try to complete the given tasks and go for the next one. This is because, one assignment may have many steps, and the other one may be finished within a short period of time.

Other Procrastination Help:

Other help of the procrastination may include setting time for the completion of the projects and decision making processes. Often people face failure due to time management problem. They unnecessarily waste time by discussing their projects and other issues with colleagues. Therefore, it is suggested to fix a schedule for the beginning and completion of the projects.

Do you find it difficult to stay on task or stay focused? Do you often late to your appointments or do you constantly running late on your project deadlines? If the answers are yes then there is a high chance that you need to work on and improve your time management.  The good thing is there are a number of simple tips that can help you improve your time management. I have outlined a few tips bellow.

First thing you would want to do to improve your time management is to set some time management goals for yourself. They can be different things like you can set as a main goal is to improve your overall time management within the specific time frame like a month. Also you need to set more specific goals like getting your work in on time, arriving to appointment on time etc. Whatever goals you choose to set make sure you stick to them and achieve them as it is very important step in improving your time management.

Another thing you need to do to improve your time management is to find where you have a problem or problems. The questions you have to ask yourself is what is causes you to waste time? There is a high chance that you probably already know. If you don’t here is a little test you can do to answer this question. Go through your normal day and just record what times you get distracted and for what in doing so you will find your answer. Once you have you answer, try to reduce it or eliminated it.

Also it is important to know that there are a few time management tools available out there for you to use. But you should note that these tools should not be relied on daily but you should use them to help you establish a routine. Some of the tools may include thing like daily planner’s alarm clocks, reminders, etc. You should not that your cell phone will have all of those features so use it for important meeting appointments etc.

A to do list is quite an important tool in time managements which you can use as it will help you to structure your day in a way that you can get everything done. Another thing you may want to do is to prioritize your to do list and order the tasks in order of importance. This will add a sense of urgency and importance and will help you concentrate on the tasks.

Probably the best way to manage your time is for you to stay organized. Some research actually showed that poor organization is a main cause of wasting time. Try and keep your desk at work and at home clean and organized so you do not waste time looking for things. Also keep the items at home organized as well this will help you spend less time looking and more time doing. Same principal applies to the rest of your life.

The tips which mentioned above should help you improve your time management on your own. But in saying that you also should remember that sometimes it is ok to seek professional help. So if you struggling with your time management and nothing seem to help then you should look for a professional help.  Also you may want to consider hiring someone to help you out with some of your tasks just so you can catch up and get back into routine.

By using some or all of the tips suggested above you should be able to improve the use of your time and become more productive. And you should know that there are many benefits at home and at work when you properly mange your time.

“This is a life-changing book”… “This book changed everything for me”….

How many times have you flicked through the internet or looked on the front cover of a so-called ‘Best Seller’ and read these types of testimonials from satisfied customers? Whether you are surfing the net or looking in your local book store it is not difficult to find a book or article focussed on self-improvement; either geared towards developing a specific area of your life or all-round spiritual or professional growth.

From my experiences I would say that there is definitely some usefulness in investing in a self-improvement book, and I have now read a few books which have really helped me to understand and begin to overcome procrastination. However, I would air on the side of caution when it comes to handing over your hard earned cash as I do not believe that a few books are not going to revolutionise your entire life.

Please don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that those satisfied customers who write testimonials like the ones above are lying to you: they probably did find true enlightenment in what they read. However, I genuinely believe that these people were in the right frame of mind to receive the information which they read, and this is the key to overcoming procrastination. Initially, when I first started making a conscious effort to stop procrastinating, I started looking online for advice. Then I printed off every article I could find. Then I read a book. The quest for information, the desire to over-plan and that feeling that you are not yet ready to start something is a trademark character trait of the typical procrastinator.

With this in mind before you decide to invest in that brilliant self-improvement book which has received rave reviews, be completely honest and ask yourself whether it is the critical tool that you need to ignite the new, non-procrastinating you… if this is not the case then you might find that the approach you are taking to overcoming procrastination is to procrastinate even further! However, if you are seeking this book as the means to start taking serious action then you will find that self-help books can really help you to learn a lot about yourself – what makes you tick and act the way you do – and provide practical advice and coaching for you to make genuine progress to overcoming procrastination, once and for all.

If you are looking for books that could really assist you in improving various aspects of your life – whether it is procrastination, time management or career development, then this link could provide you with a good starting point for finding a wealth of information geared towards self-help, improvement and motivation. Alternatively you can visit my website, which documents my struggles as a (recovering!) serial procrastinator, and reviews materials that I have read on the subject of managing and overcoming procrastination.

Time Management For The Disabled – 7 Brilliant Tips To Help The Challenged

Time Management For The Disabled – 7 Brilliant Tips To Help The Challenged

Management of time is all about setting your priorities inclusive of your tasks, rituals and activities which you perform routinely in your life. It really helps in organizing your day and spending it in an orderly manner.
This is the best way to plan all your activities and work for the day. It makes sure that you have the maximum possible time for all you activities.
Management of time is a strategy used to efficiently do your work in as little time as possible. By properly using this method, you will have a lot of time to complete your work and have time or your leisure as well. This will greatly reduce your stress levels as things are going according to a plan.
People using this technique usually have a habit of writing every activity they will be doing in the day. You can use it just as they do. Make a checklist of all the activities you plan to do during the day. Tick off everything you completed in the day and note down those which you did not.
By following this method, you will realize what all you can and cannot do in a single day. But, making the list and writing and checking it off also takes time and so you need not put in every activity for the day, just the important ones are enough.
Time management can also be used to set your objectives. You need a deadline to finish all the work and reach you goals. By doing this, you will end up focusing the maximum energy you have towards those activities which lead to your goals instead of wasting time on other things.
Management of time can be pretty easy for people with normal lives. It is relatively easy to prioritize if you have normal skills and can think normally. But have you ever wonder how the physically challenged deal with time management?
It can be really trying for people with disabilities to cope with the rules of the normal world. They experience a lot of difficulties in attaining their goals as a result of their disabilities. But you help them a great deal by giving them some of your time to help them reach goals they couldn’t reach by themselves.
You need to expect that people with disabilities have skills that are very different from yours. Learning disabilities are a result of the lack of a protein in the brain which helps in cognition and learning. This deficiency can lead to serious developmental problems and even to other disabilities like blindness.
This is where the differences arise. A student with such disabilities will find it very difficult to cope with pressures normal peoples could easily deal with. For most of their life, they would have felt the frustration of not being able to cope with such pressures.
Students with disabilities take a long time to finish a task as they do not posses all the abilities required to finish the task. This greatly affects their self belief and their life in general.
You could be a savior to them by telling them about the proper management of time. Some of the other things you can do to help them are given below.

• Give the students with disabilities tasks they could finish in a day. Never give them tasks which you would give to normal individuals, as they could find it very difficult to finish it on time.
• Let them know what you expect from them before you give them the task. It is vital that they know exactly what you need from them.
• Speak directly and clearly to them and use simple language.
• You can give them assignments so that they can practice their skills at home.
• Provide them with extra materials so that they can learn more.
• Keep you expectations realistic. Never give them tasks you know they cannot finish, but always give them some room to improve their tasks.
• Appreciate the tasks that they complete and the effort they put in.
These are some things you can do to help disabled students manage their time properly. You need to be patient as results will take some time to manifest themselves.

Five Time Management Tips to Help You Get the Most Out of Life

That’s right, time is the most important four letter word when it comes to managing life! It’s all up to you whether you start using time management tips properly today or face the consequences for the rest of your life. How manage your limited time today, may well shape your future-either positively or negatively.

You may not realize it today, but in actuality, if you do not manage your time properly today, you will have nothing to rely on (both materially and non-materially) tomorrow.

Balancing the pressure of the many daily tasks thrown at us, from studies, work, social events and family, is a difficult task without effective time management. There’s simply a lot to do and very little time to do it.

Naturally, when we neglect even one such area of life, we feel stressed out. The issue here is to come up with ways which we can inculcate in our daily lives so that we can at least start managing our time and observe it’s instant positive impact on our lives. After all, who needs the parasite named stress in his or her life?

So, here are a few time management tips which I am sure will give you practical results if implemented with just a bit of seriousness:

Time Management Tip 1.
———————-
Plan ahead. Have a clear idea of all the tasks you want to perform on a given day. For example, if you have to work on a project, which is due to be submitted five days later, don’t busy yourself with that assignment only for five days.

Instead take a family member to the doctor for an appointment, go through some related reading material or break down the project into small bites while waiting. All the while, keep working on your assignment in bits and make sure that you complete it before the deadline.

Time Management Tip 2.
———————-
Prioritize and chunk down tasks. Once you have planned what you have to do, it is then time to prioritize all those tasks. While prioritizing, it is extremely helpful to write down a to-do list and number the tasks in accordance to what is most urgent or most important, or both. Try sitting down every evening for ten minutes to create a priority list for the next day.

Try writing down only six tasks for a day in the start. Writing too many pointers results in the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Do not forget to chunk down the jobs you are writing in your priority list. Don’t divide your work into over-sized groups.

If a task on the list does not get completed, transfer it onto the next day’s list.

Write each day’s to-do list in ten minutes regularly for 21 consecutive days. If you follow the list, you will eventually become the champ of time management in less than a month!

Time Management Tip 3.
———————-
Stop procrastinating. This is probably the most difficult task, but the reality is that the more you think about how big, monotonous or boring a task is, the more fear sets in. With fear comes procrastination, which in turn, makes your mind go numb. So, don’t think about it, just do it!

If you do not think and just do something, the worst that could happen is that you might fail and if you fail, you learn. Or at least, you SHOULD learn!

Time Management Tip 4.
———————-
Always have the big picture in mind. You need to remember what your vision in life is. If you realize at some moment that you are indulging in an activity, which might prove a hindrance in the way of achieving your vision in life, be brave enough to quit it then and there.

Time Management Tip 5.
———————-
Expect the unexpected. You need to be sharp enough to bring rapid changes to your to-do list in accordance to the situation around you. Panicking never helps.
Remember: There is usually no other option but to carry out a certain task.

Also, often it is the case that it is supposed to be performed by YOU only. When there is no other choice, it is always practical to stop whining and start acting.

Let your time management system capture the nagging little details so that your imagination soars and you become even more creative!

The bottom line – Time is life. Make good use of it!
